Know about Osteoarthritis Symptoms

Osteoarthritis affects women more than men. People who are above 40 years of age are also prone to getting osteoarthritis. The common belief about osteoarthritis is progressive in the sense that it only gets worse with time. This will result in both disability and permanent pain which is not always the case. Osteoarthritis actually settles down after a period of time during which the body repairs the damage done. Pain and stiffness occurs only when the damage sustained by the body can’t be repaired. The pain and stiffness is felt in the knees and the hip.

Although no one has found a cure for it, one can find many treatments that make osteoarthritis symptoms more bearable. There are also several self-help methods to ease the symptoms felt by a patient.

Some osteoarthritis symptoms include neck & back, knee, hand, feet and hip.

Hand & neck or spondylosis, is when the discs of cartilage found between the bones present in the spine becomes thinner and as a result the space narrow down. Outgrowths start to form on the edges the joints and vertebrates. As a result of these outgrowths one will able to feel both pain and numbness that travels down to the patients arm.

Knee, the pain will be felt during the front and the side of the knee. If the osteoarthritis happens to be severe then knee can become bowed or bent.

Hand, the thumb’s base along with joints in the finger will be affected and the patient can end up with Heberden's nodes.

Feet, the toe’s base becomes stiff as a result of which the patient will feel some stiffness and may have difficulty walking or bending.

Hips, patients feel pain that in the front part. That is in front of the patient’s groin region. The pain can go all way around the hip that is either down to the knees or it could affect the front, sides and the buttocks region.
