Breast Cancer Symptoms - Do You Know?

Breast cancer symptoms vary from person to person. These symptoms can range from being swelling and lumps to changes in skin. Breast cancer victims need not show symptoms of the disease. Infections or cysts can show symptoms that are similar to breast cancer.

The breast cancer symptoms are not always visible especially during the early stages. These symptoms can be a very small lump that the patient can’t notice or they can be unusual changes that the patient themselves will notice. These abnormal areas can be easily detected from an X-ray of the breast that is a mammogram. If such changes are detected they however require further testing before anything concrete can be said.

A new lump or mass on the breast that can be felt by either the patient or the doctor can be a symptom of breast cancer. These lumps can either be soft, tender, and rounded or they can be hard, painless and have uneven edges. It is very important that if any of these unusual changes take place in the breast be reported to the doctor.

Possible breast cancer symptoms include skin dimpling or irritation, nipple that either turns inward or cause pain, the nipple starts discharging substances other then breast milk, swelling in either on a part or the whole breast, breast pain, either the nipple or the breast skin starts thickening or undergoes change including scaliness and redness (the skin resembles an orange skin), changes either in the shape or size of the breast, and a lump that is found in the underarm area.

One must however know that any of these possible symptoms of breast cancer can be caused by other non cancerous reasons. These non cancerous reasons can include infections and cysts. Therefore women who suspect that they have breast cancer must have the possible symptoms first checked by a doctor and not jump to conclusions.
