Discrimination against Online Education Degrees

Education is a process that faces constant evolution. For people who seek quality education, distance is not an issue. The scope of education is boundless and anybody with an iron-will can pursue it, no matter what. The best part about today’s world is the advent of technology. Universities of eminent names and prestige are offering master’s degree, bachelor’s degrees and even PhD degrees online. These online education degree programs allow people to further their education at the click of their mouse. This also allows them to increase their earning potential even before they have completed their schooling.

While online education may be the Utopian answer, but there are still some major apprehensions or pitfalls that students and their parents face. For instance, they face the constant discrimination of being told, their degrees do not have the same value as a degree from a brick and mortar institution. Also in this case, students are partly to blame. There are numerous students who do take their online degrees seriously, but there are thousand more students, who resort to easy cheating to score more marks. This is one of the main reasons, why institutions do not trust students with online degrees. There are a number of softwares such as TurnItIn but the security measures to control plagiarism are of no match to the number of copy paste cases.

This is unfortunately a vicious cycle. The idea of online education degree has been set in motion but it will be a few years before people in authority can come to terms with it.
